I am not well-acquainted with the narrative works of Moebius. Still, I’ve been captivated by the illustrations that keep popping up in online meanders. In particular, I was struck by his soothing-yet-unsettling pastels. Moebius’ line work and color palate are deeply indebted to Winston McCay’s Little Nemo, but take that aesthetic into strange futures. The softly-hued weirdness also bring to mind the wonderful, proggy fantasia Les Planet Sauvage. Who knew dystopia could be so gentle on the eyes?
